When walking through the streets of downtown Florence, regardless of the time of the year, one is immediately struck by the incredible amount of people roaming the streets. Who are they? Tourists, immigrants and Florentines intermingle. The rise of mass tourism and accelerating immigration over the last thirty years have transformed Florence’s urban fabric. What do we know about the experience of the city’s new inhabitants? Where do they ‘live’ the city? In this talk and writing workshop poet Elisa Biagini will discuss the different meanings of travel - leisure, culture, danger, escape - and how we can draw a new ‘emotional map’ of Florence through poetry.
