At the end of 2018, a new decree on security and immigration, promoted by the Italian Minister of the Interior, Matteo Salvini, was passed in Italy. The new legislative changes introduced by the decree, also known as the “Salvini Decree”, restrict asylum rights in Italy, boost funding for police operations, and include a provision that allows for the revocation of Italian citizenship from foreigners who pose a security threat. A panel of experts and activist will discuss the current situation of immigration in Italy and the likely impacts of the new decree on immigrants, asylum seekers, and second generation Italian youth.
