October 16th at 8:30 a.m. former U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown joined students for breakfast in the Sala da Pranzo of Villa la Pietra. The conversation touched on recent U.K. higher education strikes, Britain´s role in the Iraq war, if the U.K. will change the law that privileges the male heir in royal line of succession, and why he decided to go into politics. Mr. Brown explained the important role of education in maintaining competiveness in industrialized countries, how American technological innovation was a key to emerging from the economic crisis.
He thinks the reasons for going into Iraq were sound, but believes that people will judge the way the aftermath of the fall of Sadaam Hussein was handled harshly. It is important for young people to consider going into politics because the world needs smart young talented people to take action. And his choice of major today: international econonmics.
